NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS
- UCS Book Fair: The book fair will be at UCS from October 2nd through October 6th. The online book fair will be running through October 15th. Proceeds from the bookfair go to purchasing new books for our school library.
- School Milk Charge-I want families to be aware that if your child chooses to buy school milk, but does not order lunch, your family will be charged $0.75. There is chocolate milk on Fridays and many children order this special treat. If you prefer to not have your child buy this, please let your child know.
- Math Through Art: WE NEED HELP! We are hoping to do math through art in the third grade math classrooms this year. In order to provide this enrichment opportunity for our students, we will need to do more fundraising. We are looking for families who might be willing to help with fundraising. Please see the attached letter about Math Through Art Letter *You can also find this in your child’s home-school folder.
Curriculum Updates:
Math
Third Grade - Third graders continue to learn about multiplication. We have practiced solving multiplication problems using several strategies from drawing pictures and repetitive addition to skip counting to using breaking apart unknown facts into easier facts. Students are also playing games to begin memorizing facts, particularly X0, X1, X2, X5, and X10.
Fourth Grade: Fourth graders have been exploring multiplication through arrays. Students are finding factors and multiples of numbers using known facts and by building array models. They are also exploring prime, composite, and square numbers and are solving multiplication comparison problems. We will be taking the unit assessment this week.

Social Studies
We continue to spend a lot of time practicing routines and building our classroom community. Students created hopes and dreams . Students also worked together to create a class promise (rules) so that our classroom can be a safe, respectful, and happy place.
We also read Howard B Wigglebottom Learns to Listen. We talked about why it's important to listen and how to take a break.
