We had a special guest come in and teach us all about life in Sweden.
Thank you Anna Beach!

Ask your child about Saturday Sweets, Pancakes, and  Pippi Longstocking.

Where to next?  Mexico!

Writing
Second graders have been working hard putting the finishing touches on their Persuasive writing pieces by revising them to make their arguments stronger and editing them to make them correct. We will be delivering our letters either by mailing them or hand delivering them.
We will be sharing our writing at our Writing Celebration on Friday, May 25th at 1:45.
We hope you can join us!

Reading
As we finish up the year in reading, we have been reviewing retelling the important parts of stories. We have had reading buddies as we explore reading longer books and keeping track of important events in longer stories.  Last week we explored how stories often have messages/lessons. We read several fables and talked about the lesson for each fable. We have also been reviewing making connections with our reading and character traits.

We will be finishing up reading this year by joining Series Book Clubs!

We enjoyed a Japanese ice cream treat
Origami, the art of paper folding.

Our souvenir from Japan was Origami cats, foxes and airplanes!
Each time we fly to a new continent and visit a country,
we add travel stickers to our luggage.

Decorating our luggage

Our in-flight movie for our long trip to Japan taught us what school is like in Japan.
Ask your child what lunchtime is like in school in Japan.

Australia
Our souvenir from Australia is a didgeridoo

Reading
Second graders have been amping up their reading power by reading longer books!

Same book buddies make goals and help each other keep track of what happens in a longer story.

Same book buddies ask each other questions and discuss confusing parts.

We can even read upside down!

Spelling
Last week we explored homophones.  Homophones are words that sound the same, but are spelling differently and have different meanings.  Students worked with a partner to create posters of homophones.
