Summer Practice

Summer Activities

I often have families who ask for suggestions for the summer so that their child maintains the skills that they have worked so hard to attain over the school year.  Below is a list of websites that provide free quality Literacy and Math Practice.

We Give Books - Free Online Books - This is a free website that provides free online high quality books for reading.  It requires a username and password, but it's free!  Books range in levels from preschool to approximately grade 4-5.

Johnnie's Math Page  - Hundreds of free math learning and math teaching resources and games organized for you here. Enjoy the math!

SCIENCE PROJECT
Due Monday, June 9th

To go along with our sound unit, you will be making your own instrument!

  • Please collect recycled or used materials to make an instrument.
  • Materials may include plastic jugs, cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, paper towel rolls, rubber bands, wood, beans, etc.
  •  Homemade instruments may resemble guitars, drums, tambourines, maracas, chimes, etc
  •  You will be asked to show how your instrument produces sound and how you can change the sound (volume and/or pitch).
  • We will discuss different ways to create instruments at school this week. You can also use the links below for ideas for instruments.

Be creative and have fun.
Students will share the instrument with the class and demonstrate how to change the sound of their instruments.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
