October and November

Small Moment Book Celebration
What an amazing turnout for our second grade authors!

Proud authors and proud parents!

It all started with an idea!

We drew sketches to show the beginning middle and end.
We then put them in order.
We began our first draft!

We added, and added, and added details such as what we were thinking, what people were saying, motion and movement words, descriptive words, how we felt, beginnings to hook our reader, endings that wrapped up our stories and a catchy title!

We read and shared our stories with our
peers to get even more ideas!

A Vermont Author
On Friday Vermont author Linda Cruise came to visit Underhill ID first and second graders. She shared her book Around the World from A to Z.  She shared how she got her ideas and the process she went through to get her book published.

Math
Geometry Unit

Matching geoblocks to geoblock faces

Creating pattern block designs

Finding out which chocolate bar is the biggest by finding how many square inch tiles is has.
We learned that biggest doesn't mean tallest or widest.
Recording our math observations.

Social Studies
America's Earliest People

The Essential Questions for this unit are:

1.

Why do people move?

2.

How does life in the past compare to my life today?

Second graders have been learning about different regions of the United States and the Native Americans of that region and how Native Americans lived based on their geographical regions. We will spend the next weeks learning more about early settlers, why they came to America and what their life was like.  Students will compare and contrast their life to the life of a child long ago.
