Field Trip
Just a reminder that we will be visiting the Davis Farm on Thursday, June 4th!
Reading
Last week we finished up formal reading groups and lessons. I will still be reading with small groups occasionally. This week I have begun meeting with students individually to administer the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) which assesses accuracy, fluency, and various comprehension skills.
Spelling
Although we have not had any spelling homework, we are still busy reviewing the spelling skills we have learned this year. We have also been learning more long vowel spelling patterns.
Writing
First and second grade writers continue to learn about writing reviews. We have learned that reviews include our opinion, LOTS and LOTS of reasons, information that includes where, why, when and who, and even ratings, such as two thumbs up or 5 stars. We have learned that writers review toys, restaurants, fun-zones, amusement parks, books, and games, just to name a few! First and second grade writers have been learning how to make their reviews stronger by adding expert opinions. We will be finishing up this unit this week.
