Welcome Back!

We’ve had a great start to the school year!  This week we have been getting to know new friends and our classroom.  We read several books about the transition from home to school including The Kissing Hand and Wemberly Worried.  We also read Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen as we talked about what listening looks and sounds like and why it’s important to listen.  We started talking about classroom and school rules.  We have narrowed down all the rules to four categories:
·         Rules so we can all learn
·         Rules to keep us safe
·         Rules to keep our materials and school nice
·         Rules to take care of ourselves and other’s feelings

Just a Reminder…

There is no School, Monday September 2nd.

A New Morning Routine!

Beginning Tuesday, students that arrive between 7:25 and 7:45 will be come into the building, place their backpacks in the Multi-Purpose room and then go directly to the playground for a supervised recess.  Teachers will line students up at 7:45 to go in to their classrooms.  Children should come to school properly dressed to go directly outside, even in the winter.  In the event of extreme cold or rain, students will go to the Multi-purpose room for books, coloring or conversing.

Math

We spent the first few days exploring materials and discussing how they help us learn math. We also brainstormed ways to share materials and take care of them.  Next week we will start meeting in math groups. Students will work with all first and second grade teachers throughout the year. Teachers will be planning activities to meet the needs of different learner’s in the classroom.  Our school uses the Investigations II math program.

Have a Great Weekend!
