What an busy November we have had!
Reading
In Reading we have been learning how to read Tricky Words!
This week we read Those Darn Squirrels! We have been practicing identifying characters, identifying what we know about the characters (character traits) and identifying the important events in the story. We will continue practicing this all year.
Spelling
We are in full swing with spelling! Our usual schedule is:
Monday: Whole group lesson of a new skill
Tuesday: Sort word cards according to the spelling pattern
Wednesday: Build words using letter tiles
Thursday: Dictation of words and sentences from this week's skill and previous skills
Friday: Dictation or Spell Check
This week we are learning that /ow/ as in cow and sound can be spelled ou or ow
Ask your child about my "famous" ow lesson!
Math
We have begun Unit 2, Attributes of Shapes (Geometry) and Parts of a Whole (Fractions). An informational letter for this unit went home on Friday.
This week we learned attributes of geoblocks. We learned about faces, edges and vertices (corners). We also compared 2-D and 3-D shapes and practiced drawing 3-D shapes.
Science
Matter Unit
Last week we explored how matter can be made into something new for a different purpose. Students had to use Legos to design a water carrying device.
We designed, tested, redesigned and retested our carriers.
