Establishing Rules and Routines and Building Classroom Community
We have spent the past couple of weeks coming up with our Hopes and Dreams for 2nd Grade. Students then came up with Rules that we should have in our classroom that will help everyone achieve their hopes and dreams. Our classroom rules are:

We also talked about what it should look like for second graders to Take a Break. The purpose of taking a break is to reflect and come up with a plan to be successful. It is not a punishment. Students take a break where they can still see and hear the lesson and what is happening in the classroom.
We read a book called Howard B Wigglebottom Learns to Listen. Second graders noticed that because Howard doesn't listen, he gets hurt, hurts others by accident, misses out on fun stuff and doesn't know what to do.

Math
Second-grade mathematicians have been practicing identifying coins. We learned a new game called Do We Have 100? For this game, students turned over a coin card, such as a nickel dime or quarter, and counted out the number of pennies that the coin is worth until they collected 100 pennies. Students had to identify the coin, the value and the amount of pennies they had.
Chromebooks
Last week we learned how to take care of our Chromebooks and learned how to log on.
