May Days

May Days

Math
In math we have learned several new games over the past few weeks.  We learned how to play 101 and Out,
Make a Dollar, and Close to 100.
Our next unit explores Fractions.
Close to 100

Make a Dollar
Find two cards that make $1.00

Science
We finished up our unit on sounds by sharing our instruments that students made at home. Students use their instrument to explain how sound can change volume and pitch and how sound is made (vibration).
The students did an excellent job with their instruments. They had a lot of fun playing them and sharing with both our class and their fourth grade buddies

Rock Stars!

We have begun our new unit on Light!

The Essential Questions for this unit are:
1. How does light travel?
2.  What happens when light shines on an object?
3.  How is a shadow made?

Students used light boxes to explore what happens when light hits different objects. They recorded the results in their science notebooks.

What happens when light shines on cardboard?
What does the front of the cardboard look like?
What does the back of the cardboard look like?

We also tested wax paper, regular white paper and plastic wrap.

We are practicing recording our observations with diagrams, labels, and tables.
