This Week in our Classroom...

Week of September 1st

Math

This week for math, all first graders from both classes joined Ms Coulombe for math and all second graders joined Mrs. Byers for math class.  Mrs Byers and I will be switching math groups approximately every four weeks so that we will be working with all of the 1-2 students.
Please read the Parent Letter being sent home in your child’s folder for more information on Unit 1 and how you can support your child at home.

Establishing Community and Routines in the Classroom

We are continuing to learn classroom routines. Students have a chart to remind them of their morning jobs. We also read Howard B Wigglebottom Learns to Listen and discussed why it’s important to listen.
In Reading this week we shared how we choose books to read.   We then talked about how we determine if a book is "Just Right".  We learned that reading "just right" books help us become better readers.  Students spent time exploring our classroom books for books that were "just right" for them.

This week in Science we discussed living and non-living
things and shared what we think is living or non-living and why we thought that way.
When the students got back from the Labor Day Weekend, they discovered that all of our caterpillars had gone into their chrysalis!  I was even able to video the process and share it on Tuesday!
